This class will examine the history of action/adventure fiction, define the modern genre's scope as established in the late 1960s, review basic "formula" elements of the genre, detail methods of research in the interest of accuracy for fields of study unfamiliar to beginning (or some veteran) writers, and review practical steps toward achieving publication. In addition to reading and critiquing the work of published authors, students will plot and outline their own original stories, including credible character profiles, submit a finished portion of the work, share it with classmates, and prepare written critiques of work by other students in the class.
